Having a high power it could increase the risk of someone having an affair. Not only applies to men but also women. This is the result of an online survey conducted in 1561 adults.
The research team, headed by Joris Lammers, believe that gender is not something that played a major role in the affair, but of power. The survey was conducted anonymously by not asking the identity details of the respondents. How this is done because it is believed could make respondents more likely to answer questions truthfully.
Survey results found that a higher risk of a person's infidelity, can be influenced from a position of power. No matter, male or female.
"There has been much research in the past that shows that gender was the strongest predictor of infidelity, but none of these studies have been performed on women who are strong," Lammers said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
The respondents have varying levels of power. As many as 58 percent have non-management power; 22 percent have power management, 14 percent were in middle management and 6 percent are in top positions.
The researchers measured the power of their power by asking respondents to indicate, by clicking the mouse, how strong the power they have. Then, another variant is measured as self-confidence, distance and perception of risk associated with infidelity.
"People often assume that people in power are more likely to commit fraud and cheating because of the risk of personality or because of long-distance business trips," said Lammers.
From this study found that many women who have more power and position are considered equal to men. This study also demonstrates two key reasons why a person having an affair and deceptive acts.
First, there is a strong relationship between strength and confidence. Level of confidence a person has a strong relationship with the power and infidelity.
The second reason, that among the people in power, regardless of gender, often free to deviate as he had done in the past. Thus, the haunting desire to return to action, including an affair cheating and lying.
Research reveals that most of us always thought only a few women having an affair because there's not much have a level of power as men. However, Professor Lammers notes that evolution is not a fixed process and knows no gender label. Believe it or not, as the modernization of society, many gender differences will be lost.
"As a social psychologist, I believe that the situation is everything. A growing number of women in positions of greater power and are considered equal to men. So assuming that fewer women having an affair can change. This can lead to negative behaviors increased among women , "he said.
